The {this moment} post from last week was just the beginning of our adventures in leaf compost over the past few days. We spent the past few days getting and hauling so much of the “black gold” to put in our flower beds, herb garden, and for the new beds that are being constructing in our food garden.

Looking for Good Dirt

L1 and I had helpers, of course, but most of the work was done with just he and I as our bodies can attest. In our town the leaf compost is a first-come, first-serve endeavor which sometimes makes for some interesting adventures. We have seen the best and worst in people in the scramble for the pungent organic matter. This year, thankfully, we encountered nothing but the best side.

Working for the Gardens

We’re not sure if we have enough or not as our new beds aren’t *quite* done as we have to level them out and ready an entire new area this year. As I was digging, grunting, and sweating over the past few days I had images of the garden in the height of summer in my head and the peace that I find in my sacred place in my heart. Now I just have to keep my seedling alive and healthy until then!

How has the advent of spring (or fall!) brought you outside?

Yardwork was the major agenda item this weekend at our house, especially pulling weeds that we didn’t block from growing 2 weeks ago. It turns out we have a ton on onion grass. Every bunch I pulled up smelled so good and I just wanted to take a bite of it. I can’t wait to have a garden so that I can eat the stuff I pull up!
