In the spirit of the August Break I took a break this past week. Sometimes it just feels like too much to stop and even take pictures because I just want to *be* in the life I am living. Have you ever felt like that?
Supernatural Every Day delivered once again with the Buttermilk Cake recipe, which I decided to make so that I could use up some buttermilk so it wasn’t wasted. I know, the sacrifices I make to stave off food waste!
We proceeded to have the cake for breakfast. There was definitely a feeling of “why not?” in the air and L4 was shouting, “we’re having cake for breakfast!!!”
Going with that pull of “why not” felt so good. It’s that time of year again when time seems to speed up when I want it to slow down.
Time will move on, but here’s to savoring as much of the summer that’s left as possible.

YES! I’m always too busy to take photos (or at times to remember to take the camera). I love looking at everyone’s gorgeous photos and wishing that I was more disciplined about that. I have plenty of mental pictures…I sometimes wish we could take pictures with our eyes (like contact lenses or sunglasses)…I imagine the technology is coming…but I’d still forget to put my lenses in.
Cake for breakfast?! Fantastic!
We had the cake two days in a row for breakfast & it was just as good the second day.
The idea of taking pictures with our eyes sounds so cool in theory, but I detest wearing my contacts, especially to try to take them out of my eyes, so I think I wouldn’t use such a technology for myself. Sometimes having the camera along is more about remembering to bring it. And sometimes I just don’t feel like taking the pictures. As long as I don’t regret it, it’s all good, right?
I love the look of the cake, and it’s simplicity. I hope that you are having a beautiful end to summer!
It’s simplicity was just why I chose to make it. Not too sweet, perfect for breakfast. I hope your end of summer is lovely, too!
Lovely, Lindsey! Thanks for sharing it’s yummy goodness with us. I find that especially when I cook I don’t want to take the time to photograph because I’m usually cooking with little hands beside me. There are many recipes I want to share, but the food usually goes before I can snap a shot. And that’s one reason I haven’t photographed your beautiful placemats yet.
That must mean it’s the best kind of food, tasty to the last bite!
Yes, I get it. That is how I felt on vacation. I just wanted to be present and forget about photographing.
Such a balance, preserving some memories and trying to be IN the memories, too.
Just wanted to let you know that I made this today and it was so delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe.
